Michael Walker’s health issues continued while Ben Melham was fined for a winning ride at Flemington on Saturday.
Walker rode the Chris Waller-trained pair of Mazaz and Dabiyr into third in their respective races before being stood down by the on-course doctor after the fifth race.
He relinquished three rides including the mount aboard You Make Me Smile in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m).
The 35-year-old jockey has experienced back problems over the past four years, memorably suffering back spasms after a race at The Valley in February 2017.
He was also one of four riders involved in a four-horse fall at Sale on July 31, suffering whiplash and also aggravating his back issue. He will be free to ride pending a medical clearance.
Elsewhere, Melham received a $300 fine for breaching the whip rules when winning the second race over 1400 metres aboard Heirborn.
Melham used the whip consecutively on three occasions when driving the Anthony Freedman-trained three-year-old to victory.
